Education System in United Kingdom

The typical first degree offered is the bachelor’s degree which usually lasts for three years in United Kingdom:Students after the successful completion of three bachelor’s degree are known as undergraduates.

Some universities offer a vocationally based foundation degree for two years in length.This helps students who wish to continue on to a first degree but wish to remain in employment.Many universities now offer an undergraduate master’s degree as a first degree and the duration is of four years.

Students who have completed a first degree are eligible to undertake a postgraduate degree, which may be a Master’s degree by coursework typically lasts for one year and the research-based master’s degrees may last for two years. Doctorate Degree lasts for three years.

Admission Timings/Intake

The main intake is in September / October. Some universities offer Jan / Feb intake also.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

Undergraduate: To gain entry into an UK undergraduate course, a good academic record in High School Certificate or 12 years of schooling is required.

An acadmic IELTS score of min 6 bands. Some universities may require higher score.

Student should be of 18 years while applying or before joining a degree program.

Postgraduate: A good academic record is required to get entry into a postgraduate degree course in UK. 60 % and above in 1st degree is required by most of the Universities for Masters and Research courses. Some universities may even accept student at 50% and above in the 1st degree.

GMAT scores in between 600-700 may be required for many Universities for Management Programs.

All reputed Management institutions require a minimum of 3 years of work experience and an age criteria of 25 years plus as a minimum age requirement.

Documents Required for Application

A copy of resume, statement of purpose(SOP), two references/letter of recommendation(LOR) from recent institution/employers.

Certified copies of mark sheets from 10th till the last exam passed

A copy of passport and score sheet of IELTS/TOEFL.

Portfolio is required for students applying for art and design courses & Architecture programs).

Work experience certificate is mandatory for some professional courses like MBA in almost all UK universities/colleges.

Visa Requirement

To successfully apply for a Tier 4 General visa, you must score 40 out of 40 points.

A confirmation of acceptance for studies(CAS) by a school, college, university or other UK educational institution is required to score 30 points.

Some courses may require Academic Technology Approval Scheme(ATAS) certification. If the course requires ATAS clearance, one must provide a print out of this certificate.

Along with the original degree certificate, qualification or transcript, test results of IELTS and TOEFL are mandatory.

Demonstrate ability to fund tuition fees for the academic year plus a set amount for your living costs for the first nine months.All documents provided to demonstrate maintenance of funds must be original and worth 10 points.

Part Time Work during Studies

Students are allowed to work 20 hours in week during their academic sessiosn. However, they are allowed to work full time during vacations such as Christmas and Easter.
